How To Take Care Of My Skin At Night

How To Take Care Of My Skin At Night

Sticking to a night time routine can be as harder or even harder than your day time routine. If you have been looking for an easy routine you can do consistently and doesn’t take away from your evening let us tell you, you are not alone!
We know you have enough to balance during the day to still commit to an elaborate, time consuming routine at night but let us tell you, there’s loads of things you can do to improve the look, feel and health skin while you’re sleeping.

Let’s start with the most obvious and number one rule, wash your face. Yes, we’re sorry but it is what it is. Sometimes you might put a lot of effort into your routine and you commit to your products but if you are applying them into a dirty face they will not have the results you are expecting. We understand that you are really tired after a long day but washing your face can do so much more than just removing dirt from your skin; "Going to bed without washing off makeup or cleaning the face allows for all the micro-pollutants, dirt and bacteria from the day to sit on the skin," says Dr. Rachel Nazarian, of Schweiger Dermatology Group.

Regardless of whether or not you wear makeup or suffer from acne, it's important to wash your face before going to bed. Washing your face helps to clear your pores, remove oil from the skin, prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles & of course, freshen up your skin.

But apart from washing your face there’s other things you can add to your routine to help take care of your skin at night.

have a good night sleep

1.- Get enough sleep

First things first and the most important one is to get enough sleep. We know sometimes that’s just not an option for many but sleeping can bring huge benefits to not only your skin.
If you’re not getting enough sleep then your skin will reflect that, it doesn’t matter what products you put on it, your skin will not be glowy and vibrant as it will not have enough time to recover itself from everything it went through during the day. Our skin goes through a renewal cycle while we sleep so if you don’t get quality sleep your body can’t go into that restoration cycle and you will not only feel it but you will also be able to see it in your skin.

Developing a wind-down routine, making sure it’s dark in your room, and creating a comfortable bed and atmosphere can all help you get a better night’s sleep.

2.- Change your pillow cases regularly

change your pillowcases regularly

You and your pillowcases have a very close relationship and it is the perfect place for bacteria to accumulate and damage your hair & skin. You could be laying in oils, dead cells, dirt & many other things that could be damaging your skin’s healthy barrier causing some skin concerns.
So definitely take care of that and wash your pillowcases often or change them for fresh ones every couple of days.

3.- Retinols can definitely help

Retinols can oxidise pretty quickly under the sunlight so they are the ideal products to use during the night. "Retinols help with cell turnover and improve pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and, ultimately skin thickness," Dr. Joel Schlessinger. Since skin renewal happens during the night, retinol products could potentially help facilitate that process.

Kinvara’s Precious Facial Oil contains Bakuchiol, a plant-based ingredient that acts like retinol but without the retinol side-effects. Extracted from the seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia or ‘babchi’ plant, has been used throughout the ages in Ayuverda & Chinese medicine. Ideal for people who can’t use retinol due to pregnancy, sun sensitivity or irritation.

4.- Don’t forget about your eyes & lips

We know this sounds really obvious but we just wanted to remind you. With the focus on other areas of the face or your skin sometimes the eyes and the lips can be out of our mind.
Putting something thicker on your lips at night can make sure that they’re moisturised when you wake up in the morning. Plus, taking care of the more delicate skin around your eyes keeps them looking healthy and rejuvenated.

Kinvara’s Eye Wow Eye Serum is the ideal serum for the delicate eye area. It contains 12 plant extracts blended together in a cold process formula to help target dark circles, fine lines, puffiness, hydration and comfort. It contains Rosehip Oil, Hyaluronic Acid, Coffee and Baobab which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines as it is naturally high in Alpha Hydroxy Acids and sugars that work together synergistically to help give a lifting-smoothing effect to the skin, improving overall skin appearance.

5.- Consider a Humidifier

You might think a humidifier is only useful during winter or in a really dry climate but you would be surprised what it can do, if your sleeping area is dry (regardless of season), a humidifier might help boost your skin while you sleep.

A humidifier will help keep your skin hydrated (and body) while you’re sleeping.

"Dry heat and cold desolate the skin cells, accelerating the skin’s ageing process, so sleeping with a humidifier in drier environments can be helpful," Dr. Gerald Imber.

So now you know, it might not be all about the skincare products you use, your night time routine should actually involve much more than that but when you stick to it we know you will start seeing the results. Of course, as always, don’t forget to drink water before going to bed and right after you wake up.
