How to Boost Collagen in your Skin

How to Boost Collagen in your Skin

The old saying..’beauty begins on the inside’ still rings true!

Porridge fans are going to love this vegan porridge that is bursting with vitamins and antioxidants to help boost collagen production in your skin. Collagen is the protein that keeps your skin smooth, plump and younger looking. After the age of 20, the production of collagen starts to decline at the rate of 1% a year so it’s important to nourish your skin from within to help boost it’s production as we get older.

Topped with Cacao Nibs, Pecans, Pomegranate, and Hemp Seeds, this porridge is absolutely delicious too! Here’s the recipe:

  • Use 1/2 a cup or 40g of oats and simmer with water/non dairy milk of your choice. We prefer half Coconut Milk with half water. Whatever floats your boat! Oats provide essential fatty acids and silica, which aids the manufacture of collagen and elastin for firmer, toned skin.
  • Sprinkle 2 heaped tablespoons of Hemp Seeds on top. Hemp Seeds are rich in Vitamin A and E, and Omega 6 Fatty Acids. They are super hydrating to your skin and more importantly they help speed up cell regeneration and the production of collagen. Plus, they pack more protein than meat per ounce!
  • Add 2 Tbps of Pomegranate seeds. These juicy little seeds are full of ellagic acid, an antioxidant that helps prevent the breakdown of collagen. It’s also loaded with Vitamin C that serves as a potent antioxidant to help keep your skin more youthful. And they are super at reducing inflammation so skin prone to acne, psoriasis or eczema will greatly benefit from these luscious seeds.
  • Add 1 tbsp of cacao nibs. One of cacao’s wonders is that it’s an incredible stress buster which leads to less collagen breakdown in the skin and fewer wrinkles! Cacao is also contains sulphur, supporting collagen production and is high in flavanoid antioxidants which help hydrate and prevent premature aging to the skin.

  • Lastly, add 6 chopped Pecan nuts. These tasty moorish nuts are a rich  source of the mineral manganese which helps form collagen.

Try it out and send us your pictures and we'll share them on Instagram!
