Turmeric is a spice that comes from the Turmeric plant and has received well deserved attention for it’s super food qualities. Turmeric root is widely used in medicine and has an extensive range of health benefits. But why is it so good for us? And why do we use it in skincare?
Turmeric contains a magic, yellow substance called Curcumin.
Turmeric in Skincare
Curcumin has considerably strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and traditionally is used in products for skin rashes, psoriasis, infected wounds and eczema.
We LOVE Turmeric and for that reason we included it in our Hyaluronic Youth Boost (€22.95) . Why? The amazing antioxidants found in curcumin fight free radicals in the body that contribute to ageing skin. Curcumin is also known to reduce the appearance of dark circles, scars and sun spots. It’s yellow tint will leave your skin glowing - in a good way!
As an added bonus, it has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that make products containing turmeric an effective treatment for pimples and acne.
Curcumin helps the body to lower the enzymes our bodies produce that cause inflammation which can help treat a wide range of conditions such as menstrual pains, toothaches, bruising and arthritis.
It can help you lose weight! The curcumin present in turmeric can stimulate the gallbladder which is responsible for bile production. Bile helps the body to digest fat easier and quicker.
It’s said to have a positive effect on cholesterol. It reduces the build up of bed cholesterol, known as Low Density Lipoprotein in the blood vessels. This reduces the buildup of plaque in the arteries which is what causes high cholesterol, heart attacks and strokes.
