Oil Cleansing Method

WHY YOUR SKIN NEEDS OIL.
We need oil, we make oil and for a reason. Oil keeps your skin healthy, waterproof, soft and helps protect it from bacteria. If you use aggressive products like soaps, wipes, astringents and harsh exfoliants you can stimulate your skin to produce extra oil to help protect itself. Or, if you have dry, sensitive skin you may not produce enough oil to compensate. Oily and dry skins really benefit from this so put your scepticism aside and read on.

BUT HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you wash your face, most of the "dirt" you're washing off is old oil, dead skin cells and make-up (most of which is oil based). We know that like dissolves like so the best way to remove oil is with clean, nourishing oil. With Kinvara skincare Absolute Cleansing Oil there’s none of the harsh chemicals found in most cleansers as we're not using suds, foam or alcohol. We dont want to get a squeaky clean feeling as that just signifies that your skin is stripped, out of balance and sends it into overdrive producing more oil. We want a soft, glowing, clean feeling.

KINVARA SKINCARE ABSOLUTE CLEANSING OIL

The right blend of high-quality oils is important, most Oil Cleansing Methods call for a blend with castor oil but we don't like castor oil as its very drying, harsh and isn't usually processed in a sustainable manner. Our blend of sunflower, watermelon, sesame and thistle oils is much gentler and will allow you to cleanse with oil on a daily basis.
Once you've adjusted to the oil-cleansing method, you'll probably find that your skin care routine has changed significantly and for the best. As well as glowing skin you probably wont need to clean your skin twice a day and you certainly wont need to spend money on make-up removers

DIRECTIONS

First and foremost, this is typically done in the evening, prior to bed. There should be no need for deep cleansing in the morning, just a quick wipe with a warm washcloth or a spritz of a facial toner should suffice. We don't want to overcleanse our skin.

The objective of using this method is to clean while balancing our skins oil production at the same time.
We suggest that to begin with you do a deep cleanse daily until you notice significant positive changes, then revert to a light cleanse daily with a deep cleanse weekly. You will need to be observant and see what works for you - play around with the frequency and strength of the cleanse till you find what suits you best.

DEEP CLEANSE

The deep cleanse takes 3 minutes max
  • Dampen your face with a quick splash of water (NB always massage on a damp face, never dry)

  • 1-2 pumps of Kinvara's Absolute Cleansing Oil into the palm of your hand, rub together to warm the oil and smooth over your face.

  • Begin massaging the oil into your face. This will remove makeup, dirt, and other impurities, so there is no need to use a makeup remover or wash your face prior to the massage. Take your time (at least a minute) and focus on your problem areas. You want the oil to work into your pores so that blackheads and the like can be dissolved in the next stage.

  • Soak your washcloth in clean, steamy water. We want the water to be warm enough to open your pores and remove the oil. Hold a very warm washcloth over your face. We're aiming to gently steam our pores to release the oil carrying the impurities. Allow it to stay until it cools.

  • Wipe the oil gently away and rinse the washcloth well in hot, running water, repeat. Avoid any temptation to scrub, as you'll find it's completely unnecessary and your skin will be soft, smooth, and free of flakes without the additional manual exfoliation and irritation that will result. Impurities, dead skin cells, and bacteria will be gently swept away.

  • Follow with moisturiser as appropriate Your skin should feel clean and smooth, but not at all tight. Enjoy that feeling.

  • NB: Avoid direct contact with eyes and thoroughly rinse after using to remove mascara

  • Basically use the oil as you would soap but without the drying effects.

  • Warm 2-3 pumps of oil between your hands and massage onto a damp face to cleanse and remove make-up even mascara.

  • Wash off with a hot facecloth for a gorgeous clean feel.

  • Follow with moisturiser as appropriate.

  • NB: Avoid direct contact with eyes and thoroughly rinse after using to remove mascara

At Kinvara we recommend finishing your cleanse with a really good (but not too rich) moisturiser - both our Rosehip face cream and Rosehip face serum are ideal to give your skin a real boost - enjoy the results in the morning.

IS IT WORKING?

Don't be surprised if you get more spots etc. over the first few days, this is normal and to be expected as you are in essence removing the plugs (comedores) from your pores and rebalancing oil production. Some irritation and redness if likely. For some people the improvement is immediate but you need to give your skin time to adjust. However if you have been using the deep cleansing OCM for more than two weeks and notice no improvement then you are one of the unlucky few its just not going to work for - your search for a safe, natural and effective cleanser goes on!

After you have settled into using the oil cleansing method you should do a deep cleanse weekly or more often if you have oily skin and it needs it.
