Why is Turmeric good for breakouts?

3 minute read

You may have heard of Turmeric as a spice that is typically added to your food, but did you know that Turmeric boasts many more benefits. It is not just a spice added to food for flavour !

For many years, Turmeric has been widely accepted and used in medicine thanks to its extensive list of health related benefits.

What is Turmeric?

Turmeric is a powder, that is made up of a magic active ingredient called Curcumin. The curcumin is what gives it the yellow and orange tinge as well as the potent anti-inflammatory properties.

For hundreds of years, it was widely used in Eastern culture before western brands decided to follow suit and began adding it as an ingredient in to skincare formulas.

We absolutely love Turmeric and wanted to make sure it was added into our Hyaluronic Youth  Boost . Its yellow tint will leave your skin glowing - in a good way!

Still not convinced? We have listed some of our favourite benefits and why Turmeric is a must have ingredient at Kinvara Skincare. This kitchen spice has some powerful beauty benefits for acne prone skin.

What is Acne?

Acne is caused when there is a disruption to how the skin normally works. The sebaceous glands  are glands under the skin that produce an oil called sebum. Hormonal changes or pregnancy along with a range of other things can disrupt or change how much oil is produced and end up making too much sebum. These glands can become blocked and inflamed which results in spots and breakouts on the surface of the skin.

Acne is therefore an inflammatory condition which results in blocked pores and oil glands. Turmeric comes into play because it works to decrease the bad acne-causing bacteria which clogs the sebaceous glands that leads to inflammation and spots.

What are the benefits of Turmeric for treating acne prone skin?

The potent Curcumin that makes up Turmeric is amazing for reducing breakouts. If you have acne or spot prone skin, Turmeric is a wonderful addition because of its ability to target pores and calm skin which minimises redness and swelling, commonly associated with blemishes. It is also a natural antiseptic, which helps keep bacteria from spreading.

Heals inflammation: Curcumin which is the active ingredient that makes up Turmeric has shown to offer anti-inflammatory components which are great to help managing bad breakouts or those pesky spots that won't go away.

Helps minimise scarring: Acne typically leaves scars on the surface of the skin which can leave the skin more vulnerable to the external environment and changes in weather elements can irritate acne scars. Using a Turmeric product like our Hyaluronic Youth Boost can help your still-healing skin bolster its own defenses to resist future acne breakouts which can improve overall skin complexion.

Turmeric can be a great choice for those looking for an anti-aging product. Turmeric's active ingredient 'curcumin' has been shown to protect the skin cells from free radical damage and can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sunspots and pigmented scarring.

Top tip, after freshly cleansed skin, we recommend using a pea size amount morning and night and pat it into the area. Wait about 30 seconds, until it is dry and then apply our Active Rosehip Day Cream and 24Hr Face Serum for an extra boost of hydration and nourishment.
