Dare we say it… it is getting a little warmer? Fear not, we have got your summer skin kit listed below with ten tips and tricks to help you take great care of your skin! 

WEAR SPF

This one is a no brainer but so easy to forget. It really is a fundamental part of any skincare routine and especially important as the weather gets warmer. Protecting your skin from the harmful UVA and UVB sun rays is essential, in order to get the most out of your summer skin care routine. Pop your favourite one in your pocket or decant into little bottles and bring it with you everywhere you go. Although it is the first tip on our list here, remember to always apply your SPF last. Layer on top of your day cream and moisturiser, and you are good to go!  Check out your local pharmacy or health store for options that will suit your skin type. 

 

 

COLD SHOWERS

Don't knock it till you try it!? Healthline  states that because our bodies have a tendency to adapt to harsher conditions, they in turn become more resistant to stress. Their article further explains that cold water tightens and constricts the blood flow which gives your skin a healthier glow.  The Wim Hof method pioneered by Dutch endurance athlete Wim Hof actually recommends incorporating cold showers into your daily routine, because of the benefits to both the body and the mind. Not to mention, with expected warmer summer temperatures, the cooling effects on the skin. According to the Wim Hoff method, regular cold showers also help you concentrate better by stimulating deeper breaths which increases your productivity throughout the day. LET YOUR SKIN BREATHE

We recommend swapping your regular foundation for a CC cream or a tinted moisturiser during the summer months. This helps prevent pores becoming clogged when we sweat, which in turn leads to breakouts, blackheads and textured skin. Lighter coverage products are also a good choice for those of you who love to have a dewy and glowy complexion. Why not show off the results of your skincare routine! 

 



KEEP SPRITZING

To keep the hydration high and your skin feeling nourished, spritz with things like a toning water or rosewater spray, to help keep that fresh skin feeling. Here’s a recipe for homemade cucumber water face mist! Our friends over at Stylecraze.com, have the perfect cucumber facial mist spray that you can make at home yourself!

 

Step 1: Choose a fresh healthy cucumber

Step 2: Cut 2/3rds of the cucumber and clean it by washing and peeling the skin

Step 3: Begin slicing the cucumber into horizontal slices before cutting further into vertical slices.

Step 4: Transfer the cucumber pieces to a pan and immerse in water.

Step 5: Turn on a low flame for 5-7 minutes.

Step 6: Let water cool down for another 10 minutes and transfer to a mixing bowl.

Step 7: Churn the contents in the mixing bowl on the lowest speed for 20 seconds.

Step 8: Sieve out the cucumber juice which will remove the bigger chunks and filter the contents into a spray bottle.

Step 9: Voila! You have your very own cucumber facial mist to spray throughout the day.

LINK IN WITH LIP BALM

Protect your lips all summer long with a hydrating lip balm. Try and find one with added SPF as this will ensure your lips are protected from the summer rays. We often forget that our lips, like the skin on our face, are constantly exposed to the sun, so protecting them is crucial. Lips are also one of the first places to show dehydration by crumbling apart. A good quality lip balm contains nourishing ingredients like vitamin E, shea butter, and jojoba. 

EAT THE RAINBOW

Did you know each fruit and vegetable contains a unique set of nutrients that vary based on the colour of it? Eat what’s in season and try to check out your local farmers market for home grown options to make sure you are getting the most nutrient dense produce.
