In this article, we want to help you identify and avoid any skincare bad habits you may have and don’t even realise! We have listed 4 bad habits we see and have provided tips that are easy to implement into your routine to help you get healthy and happy skin.


Change your pillow cases frequently


You may have your skincare routine nailed but are you still struggling with pesky blackheads and areas of congested skin and texture! It can be so frustrating, especially when you are putting the time every morning and evening to removing your makeup and doing all the necessary steps. A quick fix might be to change your pillow cases more regularly.  Changing your bed sheets is often put on the long finger but did you know that your pillow case collects a surprisingly large amount of dead skin cells, skin care oil and cream residue as well as bacteria and fungus throughout the night as you sleep. This build up over time may lead to those annoying skin breakouts. We recommend changing your pillow cases once a week to minimise skin irritations.

Say no to wipes

Guilty of using face wipes?  It may seem like the most convenient way to remove your makeup but if you think about it, you rarely remove all your makeup with just one wipe. Makeup wipes can also be super drying to the skin and can be a cause for concern for people who have tricky skin conditions as all that pulling and tugging of the skin can irritate it further and actually do more damage than good. Not to mention, they are notoriously bad for the environment! Most makeup wipes are made of non-biodegradable plastic fibers, and they usually can’t be recycled or composted. Even the compostable ones are packed in non-recyclable plastic!

Begin gently massaging in your oils and creams to your neck starting at the bottom and working upwards. As we age, we lose skin elasticity and our skin begins to sag. By pulling the skin upwards you are keeping the skin nice and tight and working to prevent it from dragging down.

Keep your beauty products bacteria free

Did you know that by placing your beauty application tools directly onto the surface of your skin and then back into the bottle, jar or serum, you are spreading the bad bacteria which can lead to further spots and breakouts. A simple tip here is to wash your hands with antibacterial soap before touching your face and starting your skincare routine. If using products with a dropper application, apply to the back of your hand first and press into your skin or drop the serum onto your skin with the applicator three centimetres away from the skin with your head at an elevated angle to catch the product.
